Save My Friends' Page!

We moved away from this community to our own website and forums. That site became overrun with spam and I've posted all of our archives here so we can start fresh. I know that I've inundated your friends' pages with junk today and, for that, I apologize. It shouldn't happen again!

Happy LJing!

Stay Away from iKitchen!

On January 4, I ordered a Waring Pro Meat Grinder from iKitchen (who happens to be a Yahoo merchant). The total with discounts and with shipping was $68.34. I thought this was an awesome deal because these meat grinders run for $89.99 to $99.99 retail. The order confirmation email that was sent to me once my order was placed stated that orders are usually shipped within 5 business days. I thought this was reasonable.

Making Curtains

Our house came with an incredibly bad kitchen. There are some cabinets, mainly just enough for dishes) and even one specifically for sheet pans, which is handy but there was no where to put utensils or silverware or food. So, we bought some flatpack bookshelves from Lowes and put them along the wall of the dining area. This gives the kitchen a nice industrial feeling which is perfectly fine with me but it's starting to look super cluttered and we don't really have the room to put the doors on them.

Free annual credit report

I haven't actually done it yet, but I found a website that supposedly will supply you with a free credit from each of the three credit bureaus once each 12 months.

In the near future I will get one on geekgirlie and me to see if there is anything we need to clean up. I will report back once I try it out.

Fruit Fly Deathtrap (01/25/07)

Not specifically a cleaning product, but an interesting trick I tried out.

If you have fruit flies bugging you, take a glass, fill it with an inch or two of vinegar (what I read suggested apple cider, but white vinegar worked for me) and a couple drops of dishwash.

For whatever reason, the little pests are drawn to the glass and drown.

Information about gardening

Book link on Native Gardening

I haven't checked it out that much yet, but saw it linked on a thread regarding the 3 Sisters method of planting, where you plant corn, beans, and squash together. They are supposed to have a beneficial symbiotic relationship beyond the cornstalk providing support for you bean and squash vines.

Since we are looking at doing things a more natural and basic way, I would think the Native Americans would be a great source of knowledge. The problem is finding that knowledge written down anywhere.

Garden Links

Here is a link that discuss a couple ways to grow potatoes.

I found the tire idea very interesting. For us this year, I'm gonna grow potatoes in a raised bed where I just keep stacking the sides of the beds higher and higher as the potatoes grow. I am hoping for a huge yield so Chandler won't have an excuse not to include potatoes in every meal/
