Oatmeal

I've been getting up and cooking us oatmeal every morning so that we would eat a good healthy breakfast before going out to work every day.

Here's my recipe. It's adapted from something I saw on the Quaker Oatmeal website.

1 cup quick oats (you can also use the old-fashioned oats - you just have to cook those longer)
1/4 cup wheat germ
1 3/4 cup water
1/4 cup milk
1/4 tsp. salt

Combine the water and milk in a pot and heat on high until boiling. Stir occasionally. When the water is boiling, add the oats, wheat germ and salt. Cook about 3 minutes for quick oats (the box says 1 minute but I like mine soft and thick) or 5-6 minutes for old-fashioned oats.

We have topped ours with apple jam and brown sugar, banana and brown sugar, maple and brown sugar, cinnamon and honey. The possibilities are endless (as long as you have brown sugar, apparently).
